what's this game all about?

The goal is to have the ultimate road trip, collecting climbing projects and crushing them to win the game. In order to support your dirt bag lifestyle, earn sponsorship money and build a road trip fund. Collect sponsorship funds from other players by sending and onsighting your projects or participating in regional events. Play your cards right, and you might even steal your opponents’ projects! Watch out, though, cause they’ll be after your funds and projects too…

the beta

It may take a few minutes to learn how to play, but it’s worth the effort! The below video is a quick way to learn the basics and see an example game. For first time players, we recommend starting with a 2 player game. It also helps to play a round or two while sharing your cards to learn the rules and strategy of the game. If you find someone who already knows how to play to teach you, even better. Happy climbing!

how to win the game

Collect 3 crag sets of projects (3 projects at the same crag) in your project collection and play the crag crusher card to win the game!

the basics

the approach (set-up)

  1. Shuffle and deal 5 cards to each player face down.
  2. Players look at their cards but keep them a secret.
  3. Put the remaining cards face down (draw pile).
  4. Decide who goes first then rotate play clockwise.

first time playing?
start with 2 players

on your burn (your turn)

  1. Draw 2 cards from the draw pile and place them in your hand.
  2. Play up to 3 cards from your hand onto the table in front of you. Cards can go into 3 places: the action pile, your road trip fund, or your collection of projects.
  3. End your turn with 7 or less cards in your hand. Discard any additional cards to the bottom of the draw pile. If you have no cards at the end of your turn, draw 5 cards at the start of your next turn (instead of 2).

what the game looks like

key fundamentals

  • Cards in your hand are safe from other players. Never pay other players with cards in your hand.
  • Once a card is played on the table, it cannot go back into your hand (exception: crag crusher card).
  • There are 3 types of cards in this game: project cards, sponsorship cards, and action cards.
    • Project cards can only be placed in your project collection. Projects used to pay other players become their projects. Projects never go into your road trip fund.
    • Sponsorship cards can only be placed in your road trip fund.
    • Action cards are placed in the action pile, where their stated action will be carried out. They can also be placed in your road trip fund for the value in the top left corner, but they will no longer serve their stated purpose for the rest of the game (exception: crag crusher card).
  • Pay another player from your road trip fund first. If debt exceeds your fund, then pay with projects from your project collection until the debt is cleared or you no longer have any cards on the table. Never pay another player with cards in your hand. Change is never given.

Tip: build your road trip fund before laying down projects so you don't lose your projects if another player collects sponsorship funds from you.

it's all about your projects

  • Projects can be rearranged within your collection once per turn.
  • You cannot have more than 3 projects at any one crag. Separate out dual and/or wild projects if you exceed 3 projects at a crag.
  • Collect as many projects as you like, but you need 3 complete crag sets (3 projects at the same crag) to win the game.

dual project

The dual project can be used at either crag listed on the card. Since you can rearrange your project collection once per turn, this card can be moved from one crag to another, but it can’t be moved back during that turn.

9 in the deck

first ascent

This wild card project can be used at any crag. Since you can rearrange your project collection once per turn, this card can be moved from one crag to another, but it can’t be moved back during that turn.

2 in the deck

action cards

crag crusher

Once you’ve collected 3 crag sets of projects, play this card to win the game! If your opponent places this card in their road trip fund and they pay it to you during the game, you can move this card back to your hand, but only at the time when it is paid.

8 in the deck

low gravity day

Play this card to draw 2 extra cards during your turn. Just remember that you can’t have more than 7 cards in your hand at the end of your turn!

9 in the deck

event participation

Play this card to participate in regional events (win a competition, run a clinic, etc.) and collect sponsorship funds from other players. Card will indicate the amount to collect and whether it’s from your choice of opponent or all players in the game.

6 in the deck

shut down!

The only defensive card in the game. You can use this card at any time to stop another player’s action. It does not count toward your 3 moves if played during your turn. A second (or third) shut down card cancels out the preceding shut down card.

3 in the deck

forced rest day

Force another player of your choice to skip their next turn.

2 in the deck

master beta

The most aggressive project stealing card in the game. Steal a complete crag set (3 projects at the same crag) from one of your opponents, but it must be a complete crag set.

2 in the deck

trade projects

Trade one of your projects for one of your opponent’s projects. You chose which projects will be traded, but project taken from your opponent cannot be from a complete crag set.

3 in the deck

poach a project

Steal a project from your opponent. Project cannot be taken from a complete crag set.

3 in the deck

send (crag combos)

Use the send action cards to climb your projects at either crag listed on the card (not both) and collect sponsorship funds from an opponent of your choice. You can only climb projects in your project collection on the table (not projects in your hand). The value of the send (shown on the project cards) depends on the number of projects you have collected at that crag. Pair it with a photographer action card (4 in the deck) to double your earnings!

5 in the deck

onsight (crag combos)

Use the onsight action cards to climb your projects at either crag listed on the card (not both) and collect sponsorship funds from all opponents. You can only climb projects in your project collection on the table (not projects in your hand). The value of the onsight (shown on the project cards) depends on the number of projects you have collected at that crag. Alzheimer’s onsights are real! You can onsight the same project multiple times in a game. Pair it with a photographer action card (4 in the deck) to double your earnings!

5 in the deck

send (any crag)

Use this send card to climb your projects at any crag and collect sponsorship funds from an opponent of your choice.
